A key part of our mission is to solve the liquidity problem in real estate — it’s traditionally illiquid (slow and costly to buy/sell).

We’re determined to launch a marketplace that offers great liquidity.

Prior to offering an easy trading solutions, investors who miss out on new properties had to hope that another investor would re-list and sell the tokens to other users in a high-friction, manual way. Lofty’s new trading capabilities will provide more transparency and efficiency than ever.

Development of Lofty’s secondary market is well underway.

In parallel, Lofty is gradually selling remaining property tokens that we hold from past sellbacks — holding tokens is not relevant to Lofty’s business as we focus 100% on providing the best marketplace possible.

We Are Removing Barriers to Entry, and Will Bridge Web 2.0/Web 3.0

As we make this transition, we will also make it easier for everyone to use Lofty, regardless of their knowledge about crypto and blockchain technology.

We consistently hear that people who would otherwise love to use Lofty find it difficult to create and manage a crypto wallet, which is used to hold property token investments. Even for crypto-natives, the experience is high friction.

To address this challenge, we will remove the need for users to bring their own Algo wallet to Lofty.

We will soon offer an Algorand custodial wallet, called Lofty Wallet. All users can optionally use other wallets instead, but the Lofty Wallet does come with perks:

  • You won’t need to manually opt in to new property tokens or cryptocurrencies. Lofty Wallet automatically opts into everything supported by our platform.
  • Lofty Wallet is automatically approved to trade in our secondary market.
  • You won’t need to complete an external wallet signature for every order.
  • You can always access your Lofty Wallet by logging in to Lofty, even if you lose your seed phrase. This means you won’t lose property tokens or rent withdrawals like if you lost access to a non-Lofty Wallet

Lofty Uses a Blockchain to Democratize Real Estate Investing

At this point you may be wondering, why does Lofty use the blockchain at all? Couldn’t Lofty make things easier by using a Web 2.0 approach?

Nope.

In a nutshell, having property ownership represented on the blockchain enables Lofty to provide a much more efficient solution that eliminates legacy barriers for smaller investors, cuts costs typically borne by investors, and truly democratizes real estate investing.

Lofty Marketplace trades are completed using USD Coin (USDC cryptocurrency) and smart contracts on a blockchain. If you use a payment method other than USDC to submit a buy order for a traded property, then you agree to purchase an equivalent quantity of USDC at the then current exchange rate. That is, you agree that your currency will be converted to USDC, and your buy order will be executed using USDC. USDC is a 1:1 representation of the US dollar on the blockchain that may fluctuate in value. In the event that your order is cancelled or expires, any unspent USDC will be returned to your Lofty Wallet. If you later submit a sell order for your property tokens, and your sell order is filled, you will receive payment in USDC which can be converted to USD via third party cryptocurrency exchanges.
